Hi everyone! I’m heading to Jakarta in a couple of weeks and thinking of renting a motorbike to get around the city and nearby areas more easily. Has anyone rented a bike there before? How are the prices, paperwork, and safety? Worth the risk?

Stick to reputable rental shops, street vendors can be dodgy with documents or bike condition. Prices vary by model, usually $5–$15 a day. Always wear a helmet. Traffic is chaotic, but it’s really handy for short city trips.

It’s brilliant for saving time and having freedom, but you need to be careful. My bike once broke down on the street, so I had to hunt for a repair shop for a couple of hours. Check brakes, lights, and tyres before setting off. Rentals usually ask for your passport and a deposit, sometimes blocked on your card. Safety is key: follow the rules, even if locals ignore them, and stick to daylight hours. With a bit of prep, it’s really comfortable and fun.
