Finding a native speaker to proofread academic work

Post by Testemony »

I've written a research paper in English for an upcoming conference submission, but English isn't my first language and I'm worried about grammatical errors or awkward phrasing. I need a native English speaker to review it before I submit. Where can I get this kind of proofreading done? Most editing services I've found are either too expensive or look sketchy.

You could try reaching out to graduate students in English departments at universities. Some of them do proofreading work on the side for reasonable rates. There are also freelance platforms where you can hire editors, though quality varies a lot. Make sure whoever you hire has experience with academic writing specifically.

Academic writing has specific conventions that go beyond just fixing grammar, so you need someone who understands scholarly language and structure. Generic proofreading services often miss those nuances. You can order paper proofreading, for example, here: https://english-proofreading-experts.com/ . They work with native speakers who specialize in academic editing across different fields. They'll check not just grammar but also clarity, tone, and whether your arguments flow logically. Worth considering if you want your paper to read professionally.
