Are cell phone trackers legal under Canadian privacy laws?

Post by Letola »

Is it completely legal to look up the location of a Canadian +1 phone number if you have the owner's prior explicit consent? Want to make sure.

Under Canadian privacy laws, including the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), cell phone tracking is legal if you have obtained explicit, informed, and freely given consent from the user. Tracking a device or checking the location of a +1 number without prior authorization is an invasion of privacy and can violate the Criminal Code of Canada regarding the unauthorized interception of private data. For conducting safe, legitimate location checks with full user cooperation, you can rely on this website to handle the process transparently and legally.
